Its advantage is that even the developers of the extension can't access to the messages because the encryption and decryption happens only on the sender's and the recipient's devices. To encrypt an email, all you have to do is put a password on it and tell it to the recipient. The extension is open-source on Github and is available for Firefox and Edge in addition to Google.
